Tbh i headcanon that part of the reason the Elrics were so good at alchemy was bc they had a sibling. With siblings nothing is free. Equivalent exchange at its finest. I just traded half a bottle of soda for the use of my sister’s earbuds on the way home. She brought up the fact that she gave me a drink while I was laying on the couch two months ago in order to convince me to bring her snacks. The Gate of Truth doesn’t have anything on a younger sibling who wants something and did something nice for you a couple years ago
“You can’t have a character with big boobs and not sexualise them”
“There aren’t any feminist female characters that want to do things that are typically feminine”
“There aren’t any badass gay characters”
“There aren’t any cool/badass disabled characters”
“Okay well what about disabled POC characters?”
“There are no interesting or complex villains! None that ever question their morals, or have an interesting motive”
“There aren’t any women characters that don’t just do things for men”
“I want a poc character that fights against racism”
“There aren’t any cool characters that aren’t young and healthy”
“There are no male characters that like feminine things”
Need I go on? Go watch Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.
Fullmetal alchemist also tackled the issues of imperialism, genocide, PTSD, friendly fire, racism, war brutality, and military corruption unflinchingly. “Most military commanders are killed by their own disgusted soldiers.” indeed.
I just realized that most women in the FMA universe have big boobs and that this isn’t even highlighted in the series (or in the manga).
A female character who is a cold, relentless leader, always pragmatic, and able to make whatever hard decisions need to be made in order to ensure success and survival, tremendously skilled and devastatingly efficient at her job, tragically terrible at being overtly nice to people, who is also not evil and is still fundamentally a good person.
The Moral of This Post is: No matter how genius your idea is, Hiromu Arakawa probably already did it, and she did it better than you could ever hope to.
One of the reasons I am so irrevocably in love with FMA are the female characters. They are so fleshed out and wholly unique and so strong, and I just can’t even describe how much I love that. Hawkeye owns my body, but every other character has a special place in my heart. I will never be over this shit.
