You know what breaks my heart? The fact that if Hagrid had let Sirius take Harry, Sirius would probably have had more control and wouldn’t have gone after Peter and wouldn’t have been charged with the murder of Peter and twelve muggles. Because he had to watch over Harry. Get his godson to safety. And he could have told someone that it was Peter who betrayed the Potters and Peter would have gone to Azkaban. And Harry would have grown up with his godfather. And he would have known about his parents. And he would have been somewhere where he was loved. And Sirius wouldn’t have had all that endless guilt stored inside himself because he would have his godson. And he would do whatever he could to do right by him.
I’m not saying it’s completely foolproof because I know Peter set him up, but. I like to think that Sirius would have had a better chance if he could have taken Harry with him.
That, and also if Dumbledore has spoken up for him at his trial, but that’s a different post entirely.
