I don’t think the metaphor of the concept photos is at all subtle so everyone is discussing it but I do want to point out a couple things:

To think about it in context of the Love Yourself theme, because this is the conclusion, it’s almost like because they’ve worked so hard to love themselves, to spread the message, to find the success they yearned for, they are now trapped in this. They’ve become their purpose but now are suffering the consequences. They’ve helped so many people but are now trapped by it. Of course concept photos sometimes don’t have anything to do with the actual album but BTS is pretty good about tying them together and previewing the themes.

So what’s the answer then? We know from Epiphany that you need to find it yourself. You need to love yourself, no one can do it for you. You can’t do it for your friends and loved ones, BTS can’t do t for you.

Is the message here to release BTS from their constraints and let them be themselves? To stop the expectations of being perfect? To stop the expectations that they can solve the problems of the world? To let them be themselves?

It’s also a message outside of the Love Yourself series though. A commentary on being an idol and being famous. Constantly watched, overly styled, constantly touched, the expectation that you are seen at all times. That you are pretty and perfect and untouchable, outside of the real world and living inside a bubble. Only to be released to be seen and only when you look like you’re supposed to look.

So dependent on the next two sets I think we can expect all these elements. I think…I think it will be political and it’ll be personal. Cause the political IS personal. I expect they will be released fully from these expectations and burdens and this will be a drop before tour to say, hey. We mean our shit. We won’t do promo for it, you can take it or leave it. But this is what we have to say. With everything that’s happened in the past year, they’ve earned their statements and their feelings for dealing with the fame. After everything we know, after all the commendations and awards, I think BTS deserve to be heard.
