i keep seeing people defending mitsuki by comparing her treatment of bakugou to endeavor’s treatment of todoroki. like,,,, y’all,,,, not all abuse is the same???? and just because the author doesn’t recognize it as abusive, that doesn’t mean it’s not.
that said, i do believe that mitsuki loves her son. masaru too, probably. but that doesn’t make it okay. you can love someone and still hurt them, and honestly? it isn’t the physical bit that bothers me most. like yeah that’s not great, but it’s very commonly used in manga to show “tough love” so it’s not too shocking. the problem is the moment where she screams at him “since you’re such a weak little bitch and got kidnapped, you caused everyone all sorts of trouble”.
that’s victim-blaming. period. there’s no excuse for saying that. but hey, since you guys love comparing abuse: imagine if endeavor told todoroki that the shit he went through was because he was “too weak”. y’all would flip out.
and i don’t want to hear “it’s just a joke”. not from this fandom. because you know what else is “just a joke”? mineta’s behavior. it’s just supposed to be funny, but the fandom collectively despises him. why? because sexual harassment isn’t funny. and neither is child abuse.
i’m sorry but if your kid goes through something that traumatic and you tell them it happened because they were too weak? you’re an abusive parent. if your kid thinks the best way to deal with unruly toddlers is using “violence to put ‘em in their place” because “that’s how i was raised”? you’re an abusive parent.
mitsuki is an abusive mother. end of story. stop making excuses for her.
