8 Reasons to Stop Putting Off the Gym

infiniteshawn:

You may be struggling with body-image issues, like myself. I always told myself I would be fit when I’m 20, or something. Well, I’m almost 19, and I’m not happy with the way I look. It’s not gonna happen by itself, and it’s not gonna happen overnight. As much as I was afraid to finally take on working out, I knew it was something I had to do. I figured the only way I could feel good about myself is if I know I’m doing everything in my power to be the best I can be, appearance-wise. So I did it. And I couldn’t be happier.

1. I get my best thinking done at the gym. I usually stick to cardio, allowing for myself to get lost in thoughts rather than focus on form or technique. The elliptical, spin bike, or rowing machine is a great place to get mentally organized, whether you’re sorting out your problems or coming up with new fanfic ideas.

2. You can actually go up stairs without getting winded. CN Tower Climb? Sign me up!

3. It gives you a sense of purpose. Even if you have nothing to do on a certain day, having a routine and sticking to it makes you feel accomplished. Even if I get no work done during the day, I know I’ve made progress at the gym.

4. Noticing the results is so much fun. Your jeans may slip on with a little more ease, or your sports bra may stop suffocating you. Even without using a scale, you’ll notice the progress just by looking at yourself. For me, I started first noticing things when I did my makeup. My cheeks were starting to hollow out, and I didn’t really feel the need to contour anymore.

5. It bleeds into other areas of your life. Self-care at the gym will encourage self-care elsewhere, and you’ll start eating better, or washing your face more thoroughly.

6. Your body will thank you. You’ll sleep better, feel better, and possibly even feel happier knowing you’re doing the best you can.

7. It’s fun to try new things. If you hate it, at least you tried, right?

8. You’ll understand that everybody and every body is beautiful. As you improve as a whole person, you’ll come to realize that everyone is going through something, and everyone is just trying to deal with their shit. You’re one of them, I’m one of them. Through feeling better about yourself, you’ll probably feel better about others and feel the need to spread positivity. This makes the world a better place. Help me make the world a better place. Get to the gym!
